Friends, Clothes, Music

I went to my first clothes swap last night at Jen's house. Curious how it works, well visit Jen's Blog and she's tell you the ins and outs of hosting a clothes swap. I scored a polka dotted dress and tons of clothes. I left early to catch Explosions in the Sky play at Emo's. I love hearing them play live!

Sanibel, Florida
I went home to Fort Myers, Florida over the weekend. It's so bright there!! I went on a boat ride with family and took this pretty picture of Sanibel Island. It's very common to come across dolphins and manatees when boating off the coast. I miss living on the water..that's the hardest thing about living in the center of Texas.

Texas Rollergirls' Whammy Awards

Here's a picture of Trouble and I at the Whammy Awards. I scored this "squirel holding a real walnut" dress last summer at the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn, New York. A bunch of us Mafiosa ladies shared a booth at the event. The best thing about this dress is that the woman who sold it to me was so happy it was going to a good home! Don't you love how the nut is perfectly positioned ;)

DRESSING UP FOR PLUG MUSIC AWARDS

I took this picture of my friend Cory Ryan at a photo shoot for the Plug Independent Music Awards. My other friend and fellow Austin Craft Mafiosa Tina Sparkles of Sparkle Craft coordinate the outfits for the photo shoot. Cory is a photographer and she explained the technique of steady hands when using the night setting. Obviously, I'm not so good at holding still. Even though this photo is blurry, as most photos I take are, I really like it.

I HEART TEXAS ROLLERGIRLS

My pretty little face was on CBS news for a story about the Texas Rollergirls and the revival of roller derby. Sewing relieves my creative energy and roller derby keeps me in shape..ok, I'll be honest..derby also relieves built up frustration.

ACM mentioned in the Austin Chronicle

This week's Austin Chronicle published its top 10 for 2005. Rachel Koper listed Stitch Fashion Show and the "anything including" the Austin Craft Mafia in her top 10. Austin is such a great supportive community for art and music!

Jenny Hart's patterns RULE!

I like to take some kind of craft project with me when traveling. I usually knit a scarf but this New Years trip I decided to test out embroidery. I've been collecting my friend Jenny Hart's Sublime Stitching patterns for almost a year now. The timing was perfect to test one out. I had this great asphalt sweatshirt with a stain right in the center just screaming to be covered up! It seriously took no time at all to finish. The hard part was I couldn't bring scissors on the plane so I had to ask a clerk at one of the airport stores if I could borrow scissors to cut the thread. At first, he looked at me with suspicion but once her saw my crafty work he was very nice. I completely hooked on embriodery.

New Year's in Tahoe

I just got back from spending New Years in Tahoe. We go every year for a week to meet up with friends that live in CA. This year we actually brought in the New Year by candle light due a snow storm that knock out power for several hours. Here's a photo of my friends clowning around at the top of Kirkwood.
Now that I'm back in Austin I'm looking forward to getting back to work. I should have some new items up on my site in the next coming weeks..I'm excited about 2006!
